Project 1: RE: Play – Children’s Outdoor Playscape

Project 1 deals with the understanding of repurposed materials and their relationship to the crafting of spaces for user experience. Students will be required to design an OUTDOOR PLAYSCAPE for children, which is intended to showcase specific material(s) for a proposed set of activities. It is to develop awareness of environmental sustainability through the responsible and innovative use of reclaimable and repurposed materials in relation to user needs.

Objectives of the Project :

  • To develop awareness of environmental sustainability in architectural design.

  • To develop the student’s ability to meet the imperative and inter-related environmental and social needs, as well as make poetry with materials and spaces.

  • To further develop understandings on human scale, proportion, ergonomics and materiality.

Project Details :
In this introductory exercise, students are to design within a given area of area of 5m(l) x 5m(w) x 3m(ht), an OUTDOOR PLAYSCAPE for children that is modular, lightweight as well as safe with all mechanisms being simple and easy to operate. The main materials for its construction are reclaimable/ repurposed materials and reasonably weather proof. And produce two A1 Board.

Project 2 Component A : Site Analysis Presentation

We are required to produce 4 A1 site analysis boards within a week.

Project 2  Final : COMMUNITY RECYCLING, REPURPOSING & RECLAIMING CENTRE, TAMAN DESA

The project calls for a design of a COMMUNITY RECYCLING, REPURPOSING AND RECLAIMING CENTER in a suburban park area with some complexity that includes the complexity of site topography and vegetation and existing activities. Students are required to provide full design proposal incorporating precedent study and site analysis at appropriate level of presentation. It explores design solution that responds to the program, context of the site and conditions for human and environment sustainability.

Objectives of the Project :

  • To develop awareness of environmental sustainability in architectural design.

  • To develop the student’s ability to meet the imperative and inter-related environmental and social needs, as well as make poetry with the buildings.

  • To emphasize on space planning of clusters of buildings.

Project Details :
Format: Final drawings presentation is to be composed on 6 – 8 A1 panels–landscape format (To print separately)

Students explore design solutions that reduce environmental impact utilizing clustered spatial typology and passive energy. The design should contribute to and merge harmoniously with nature and the site, and provide the best of experiences for the users.

Reflection: From this project, I learnt more about the engagement of community with the building design. Clear circulations give a good impression to the users and also the spatial experience. Recycling center is not merely a building for recycling purpose, but it can be more lively by interacting with the community. Not only that, combining my building to the landscape is a huge challenge as I have to consider about the method of how my building sit on it and how the materials used to ensure my building to be sustainable. Apart from that, rules and regulations turn to be a restrict to my design yet the cost spend for the design too.
